American Oncology Institute (AOI) and Citizens Specialty Hospital successfully organised the 6th Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Oncology Surgery Workshop

Inaugurated by the Minister for Finance, Health, Medical & Family Welfare, Government of Telangana

26th Feb 2023, Hyderabad: Over 500+ delegates gathered at the 6th Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Oncology Surgery (MIGOS) organized by American Oncology Institute (AOI) and Citizens Specialty Hospital in collaboration with Obstetric & Gynaecological Society of Hyderabad (OGSH) at Le Meridien Hotel, Hyderabad. The Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Health, Medical & Family Welfare, Government of Telangana Sri T. Harish Rao Garu inaugurated the conference followed by a lamp lighting ceremony.

The workshop aims at training healthcare practitioners and enhancing their surgical skills with advances in robotic technology for treating Gynaecologic Cancers. The organising chairperson, Dr Jagdishwar Goud the Head of Department for Surgical Oncology & Robotic Surgery at AOI led the session with the live surgery on Open Hysterectomy demonstrating various techniques and offering educational values. It’s a great learning experience for the gynaecologists and other surgeons of the state to experience and learn robotic surgery. The benefits of robotic surgery include less pain, blood loss, quicker return to normal life, shorter hospital stay, faster recovery, lower risk of adverse side effects, among others.

Addressing the session, Sri T. Harish Rao Garu said, “The live demonstration of robotics surgeries for the upcoming young doctors is a different concept. The incidence of cancer cases are increasing, and technology plays a significant role in cancer care and treatment. Hyderabad has quickly emerged as a global healthcare hub, attracting thousands of patients from across the world. With well-developed healthcare infrastructure government and private hospitals are major contributors in making the city the medical tourism hub of India. Along with public health it is crucial to strengthen the medical education for the doctors with recent technological advancements to improve the quality of health care services. We appreciate the commitment and are glad to have institutions like AOI and Citizens Specialty Hospital for providing a platform to enhance the skills in the field of medicine for our city and the entire country.”

Dr Jagdishwar Goud the Head of Department for Surgical Oncology & Robotic Surgery, AOI said, “There has been a rapid progress of the use of robotic technology over the past decade. With its technological advancements, robotics surgery allows minimally invasive surgery including less blood loss and quicker recovery time compared to traditional laparotomy. It also helps with shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery for patients to get back to their daily routine. We are glad to organise the MIGOS event that helps Oncologists and Gynaecologists on the advanced form of robotic surgery and improve quality of treatment as well as for gynaecological cancer.”

Dr Ganga Bhavani, Organising Secretary, said, “With increase in gynaecological cancer cases, it is the need of the hour for health practitioners to enhance their skills and practise through minimally invasive robotics surgery.
