Hyderabad, 10th June 2022: Celebrating Cancer Survivors’ Day, American Oncology Institute (AOI), Hyderabad has launched a cancer support group for cancer survivors, doctors, and carers to come together to provide mutual motivation to other patients and exchange their experiences. The families along with cancer survivors, patients, doctors, nurses, and the staff of AOI came together to share positive vibes. AOI through its brand tagline “We journey with you” aims to reinforce its commitment to our society’s well-being.
AOI has invited patients who fought cancer successfully to felicitate and celebrate life while creating a forum to share their emotional experiences of coping with cancer and inspire others in their journey. Cancer survivors, with various types of cancers of the neck, lung, cervix, and breast also participated and kicked off the event.
Stressing on the need for a Cancer Support Group, Dr. Prabhakar P, Regional Chief Operating Officer, AOI, said, "Cancer diagnosis and treatment is an overwhelming process for the patients and their loved ones. The treatment of cancer is a journey right from the diagnosis to treatment and even after survival. Hence, a cancer support group can be extremely helpful for patients to get motivated and inspired every step of the way. With this support group, we aim to combat cancer jointly by encouraging the patient and their families, and friends to be courageous and positive during the treatment process. According to a report by the ICMR on the ‘Burden of cancers in India’, the cancer burden is to rise to 29.8 million in 2025. Hence, peer-to-peer cancer support is the need of the hour to help people cope with all aspects of cancer diagnosis by providing a safe environment to share experiences, and learnings during this journey, highs & lows. This is a forum where patients, caregivers, and everyone to share and learn from one another.
