Colorectal cancer

Overview

overview

Colorectal cancer develops when the cells of the colon or rectum grow without any control. It may be named colon or rectal cancer based on the site at which the cancer is initiated.

Colon and rectal cancers are generally grouped due to similarities in several characteristics. The digested food from the small intestine reaches the colon, where the excess water and salts are absorbed. The waste matter then reaches the rectum, where it is stored until expelled from the body through the anus.
