Head & Neck Cancers

Cancers of the head & neck generally originate in the squamous cells of the head & neck region. The line the moist, mucosal surfaces and are often referred to as squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck. In some rare cases the cancers could originate in the salivary glands as well. Cancers of the head and neck are further categorized based on the specific region of the head or neck where they originate.

Brain Tumour

Abnormal growth of cells in the brain is known as brain tumours and they could be either benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). Brain tumour treatment options depend on the type of brain tumour, as well as its size and location.

Eye Cancer

Eye melanoma is the most common form of eye cancer, that originates in the melanin producing cells of the eye. Also known as ocular melanoma, the condition is hard to detect because it doesn’t interfere with the vision of the patient.

Oral Cancer

Cancers that develop in the oral cavity consisting of the lips, gums, tongue, inner lining of the cheeks, are collectively known as oral cancers. Common symptoms include – loosening teeth, sores or cuts that don’t heal, persistent oral or ear pain, amongst others.

Throat Cancer

Throat cancer is also known as oropharyngeal cancer and refers to the abnormal growth of cells in the throat (pharynx), voice box (larynx) or tonsils. The condition is largely evidenced by persistent cough, difficulty in swallowing, persistent ear pain and a lump that doesn’t heal.

Thyroid Tumour

Thyroid tumours occur in the cells of the thyroid gland that produces the thyroxine hormone. The tumours may be dormant or devoid of any symptomatic evidence to begin with which makes early detection and effective treatment harder than some of the other tumours.

Pituitory Tumour

Pituitary tumours occur in the cells of the pituitary gland and are largely evidenced by symptoms of headache and loss of vision. Additional symptoms may be dependent on the actual consequence of the tumour on the gland, causing hormonal imbalances.
