What are the precautionary measures taken to prevent leukemia?

    • Avoid radiation and chemical exposure
    • If you have received chemotherapy or have a leukemia history then go for regular checkup
    • Quit smoking
    • Get yourself checked if you have any genetic disease or blood disorder

How to prevent leukemia in children?

Although the risk of many adult cancers can be reduced by lifestyle changes, there is no known way to prevent childhood cancers at this time. Infact, most children with leukemia have no known risk factors, so it’s difficult to prevent leukemia in such cases.

    What is leukemia prevention diet?

Eating a well-balanced diet during and after leukemia cancer treatment can help you feel better, maintain your strength, and speed your recovery.

    • First things first, maintain a healthy weight. Dieting is strictly not recommended during cancer treatment as losing weight can lower your energy level and decrease your body’s ability to fight infection.
    • Eat small, frequent meals throughout the day as this will ensure your body is getting enough nutrients to tolerate treatment.
    • Choose protein-rich foods as these help the body to repair cells and tissues.
    • Include whole grains to your diet as these will help to keep your energy levels up. Good sources of whole grains include: oatmeal, whole wheat breads, brown rice, etc.
    • Include fruits and vegetables in your daily diet.
    • Avoid fried, greasy, and fatty foods. Choose baked, broiled, or grilled foods. Instead have healthy fats.
    • Cut down sweets, preservatives and added sugars.
    • Stay hydrated as drinking enough fluids during cancer treatment is important so as to prevent dehydration.
    • Avoid drinking caffeinated beverages as too much caffeine can lead to dehydration.

Are there any benefits of discovering leukemia early?

Detecting and treating cancer at an early stage can save lives as blood cancer that’s diagnosed at an early stage – when it hasn’t spread, is more likely to be treated successfully. But if cancer spreads, effective treatment becomes more difficult, and reduces a person’s chances of survival.

Any kind of delay in diagnosis can have a significant impact on the outcome of treatment, which is why early diagnosis of leukemia is so crucial.
