How often should I be screened for uterine cancer?
Uterine cancer screening does not exist as of now, therefore, it is important for women to learn to get familiar with the symptoms and recognize the risks associated with uterine cancer or endometrial cancer.
Some common tests that can help in screening of uterine cancer include:
- Pelvic exam: During this test, a physician examines the vagina, ovaries, fallopian tubes, uterus and bladder to look for lumps or tumors. Although pelvic exams have not proven to be effective in detecting early uterine cancers, they can certainly help to detect advanced uterine cancers.
- Pap test: Though not commonly used for uterine cancer, a pap smear test can sometimes show signs of an abnormal endometrium (lining of the uterus), which can be confirmed by follow-up tests. The Pap test is primarily designed to screen for cervical cancer.
