    Precaution

What are the precautionary measures taken to prevent uterine cancer?

There is no known way to prevent uterine cancer but reducing risk factors is the best way to lower your chance of getting uterine cancer. Besides, it’s advisable to follow these measures as listed below:

    • Use birth control pills
    • Maintain a healthy weight
    • Stay physically active
    • Take progesterone, if you are taking estrogen
Also, it’s advisable to ask your gynecologist about how often you should get checked for uterine cancer, especially if you have a family history of cancer.

What is the main cause of uterine cancer?

Although the exact cause of uterine cancer is not known, certain risk factors such as endometrial overgrowth, obesity, menses beginning before age 12, menopause after age 55, estrogen therapy, radiation to the pelvis, family history of uterine cancer, etc., tend to increase a woman’s chances of developing uterine cancer.

But having one or more risk factors does not necessarily mean you will develop uterine cancer.
So, the best way to protect yourself is to become familiar with the symptoms of uterine cancer. These include unusual vaginal bleeding, painful urination and pelvic discomfort.

If you experience any of these symptoms, make sure to promptly seek treatment.

    Can uterine cancer be prevented?

As mentioned above, there’s no sure shot way to prevent uterine cancer. But the best way to protect yourself is to become familiar with the symptoms of uterine cancer and to seek immediate treatment.

Besides, it’s advisable to follow these measures as listed below:

    • Use birth control pills
    • Maintain a healthy weight
    • Stay physically active
    • Take progesterone, if you are taking estrogen.
