A bone marrow transplant (BMT), or hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), is a medical procedure used to treat certain types of cancers, such as leukemia, myeloma, lymphoma, and other blood and immune system diseases that affect bone marrow.
Bone marrow is the spongy tissue found inside bones, it contains stem cells which are immature & pluripotent stem cells that can potentially produce any cell or tissue.
A blood or marrow transplant (BMT) replaces unhealthy or diseased blood-forming cells with healthy ones in the marrow.
Patients undergoing BMT need to be carefully evaluated and monitored by a team of experienced healthcare professionals. The success and outcome of the transplant depend on various factors, such as the patient's condition, the source of the stem cells, the degree of compatibility between donor and recipient, and the level of post-transplant care provided.
BMT unit at AOI is present in Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Imphal and Nagpur
