Bile Duct Cancer

Overview

overview

Bile duct cancer, also known as cholangiocarcinoma, develops when abnormal and uncontrolled growth and division of cells occurs at any area in the bile duct. Bile ducts are the tubes that connect the liver with the gallbladder. It also connects the liver to the small intestine. Although bile duct cancer may occur in people of all ages, it mostly affects individuals above the age of 50 years. Unfortunately, most cases of bile duct cancers are diagnosed at advanced stages as patients experience no symptoms during the initial stages.
