Rehabilitation & Follow-up Care
What is prostate cancer follow-up care?
Follow-up care is necessary during the treatment for prostate cancer to help maintain good health, control any treatment side effects, monitor for signs of cancer recurrence, and scan for other cancer forms. A follow-up treatment plan can include routine physical examinations and other medical tests to monitor the progress of patient’s condition in future.
The doctors always monitor the patient closely, even though the treatment is completed. It is very important for a patient to attend all the follow-up appointments. At these appointments, the physicians will ask about any problems the patient may have and can perform laboratory tests or diagnostic scans to check for symptoms of cancer or side effects of treatment.
Some side effects of the treatment may last long or may not even appear after you have finished the treatment. Your visits to the doctor are a good way to ask questions and address any changes, issues or other concerns you may have. It is important for all survivors of prostate cancer to inform their health care team about any new signs or complications, as there can be the chance of cancer recurrence or a new or second cancer to develop.
