At American Oncology Institute, we encourage our cancer survivors to receive a post-surgical cancer care plan for regular medical checkups. These follow-up checkups are crucial to check for a recurrence and may include blood and other necessary tests and procedures.
As an international patient, your post-cancer treatment care plan generally includes preparing for cancer chemotherapy, preparing for cancer radiation therapy, preparing for cancer surgery and once you’ve been discharged from the hospital it may include frequent video counseling with your treating doctor, appropriate cancer screenings and healthy lifestyle choices such as exercise and proper nutrition.
Based on your specific cancer type and treatment you received, our specialists will help you design a personalized follow-up care plan.
Your follow-up care plan will include:
- Regular physical exams with an overview of your recent medical history
- Monitoring for early detection of new or returning cancers
- Management of cancer and treatment-related side effects
- Lifestyle coaching and tips to help reduce cancer risk
