Multiple myeloma Screening
Multiple myeloma can be difficult to diagnose early. It does not cause symptoms until it reaches an advanced stage. Sometimes it may cause ambiguous symptoms that tend to be a result of certain diseases at first. Multiple myeloma is detected early when a routine blood test reveals an abnormally high amount of blood protein. The multiple myeloma life expectancy depends on the stage and how early the cancer is detected.
People with MGUS or solitary plasmacytoma are at risk of developing multiple myeloma. It is advised to have routine multiple myeloma blood tests to monitor the condition. In such cases, multiple myeloma can be diagnosed earlier than those who have not had MGUS or a solitary plasmacytoma.
