Guntur, 15th Oct 2024 – American Oncology Institute (AOI), Guntur, has successfully treated Mrs. Yanamadala Prabhavathi, a 69-year-old woman diagnosed with lung cancer. Mrs. Prabhavathi came to the hospital with a persistent cough, which led to a detailed examination and tests confirming she had cancer in the upper part of her left lung.
To treat her condition, the medical team, led by Dr Phanindra Kumar Nagisetty, Surgical Oncologist performed a minimally invasive surgery called VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery) Left Upper Lobectomy. This advanced procedure allowed doctors to remove the cancerous part of her lung through smaller incisions, offering numerous benefits over traditional surgery. Patients typically experience a faster recovery, as the minimally invasive technique promotes quicker healing, enabling them to return to their normal activities much sooner. The smaller incisions result in significantly less post-operative pain, making the recovery process more comfortable. Additionally, this technique reduces the risk of complications such as infections or excessive bleeding, while also preserving more of the healthy lung tissue, leading to better lung function post-surgery.
Harish Trivedi, CEO of CTSI – South Asia, praised the success of the surgery, stating, “At AOI, we are committed to delivering world-class Cancer Care using the latest medical technologies and treatment innovations. Mrs. Prabhavathi's case is a perfect example of how our focus on personalized, patient-centered care can lead to exceptional outcomes. Our ability to combine cutting-edge procedures like VATS with the expertise of our specialized medical team is key to transforming lives. We are proud to be at the forefront of Cancer Care in India, offering hope and better quality of life to patients like Mrs. Prabhavathi.”
Mahendra Reddy, Regional Chief Operating Officer of AOI, Guntur, added, “We are incredibly proud to provide advanced cancer treatments right here in Guntur. The availability of procedures like VATS in our region means patients no longer need to travel far to access top-tier medical care. At AOI, our mission is to make quality cancer treatment accessible to everyone, and Mrs. Prabhavathi’s successful recovery highlights the impact of bringing world-class healthcare closer to our local communities.”
Dr Phanindra Kumar Nagisetty, Surgical Oncologist at AOI Guntur, shared his insights on the importance of early detection and advanced surgical care, saying, “Lung cancer is a serious condition, but with timely diagnosis and the right treatment options, we can achieve highly positive outcomes. VATS is a minimally invasive procedure that not only improves surgical precision but also significantly enhances recovery times and reduces complications. We are very pleased with Mrs. Prabhavathi’s progress and her smooth recovery, and I strongly encourage regular screenings for early detection, as it plays a crucial role in successful treatment.”
Mrs. Prabhavathi is now on the road to recovery and will continue with follow-up care to ensure her long-term health. Patients who undergo VATS generally spend less time in the hospital, minimizing the disruption to their daily lives and lowering overall treatment costs. Furthermore, the smaller incisions leave less noticeable scars, contributing to better cosmetic outcomes, which is often a concern for many patients. Dr Nagisetty’s use of this cutting-edge approach ensures that patients receive optimal care with faster recovery and improved quality of life.
