The complications of tracheal tumors include difficulty swallowing, hoarseness in the voice, and respiratory obstruction. And, the side effects of cancer treatment include incomplete tumor resection, loss of appetite, hair loss, nausea and vomiting, and damage to healthy tissues.

Various types of tracheal cancer are:

  • Squamous cell carcinoma: It occurs in the lower section of the trachea and has rapid growth. It results in ulceration and bleeding due to its invasion into the mucosal lining of the trachea. Men are at increased risk of developing this cancer than women.
  • Adenoid cystic carcinoma: These cancers are slow growing and are less likely to penetrate the mucosal lining. It has the potential to block the trachea as the disease progresses.
