Prevention

Although stomach cancer cannot be prevented, certain measures lower the risk of developing stomach cancer. These include:

  • Healthy diet: It is encouraged to consume a healthy diet that comprises of fresh fruits and vegetables. Smoked and salty foods should be avoided.
  • Avoid smoking: Quitting smoking lowers the risk of stomach cancer. As quitting smoking may be difficult, it is important to take guidance from the healthcare provider.
  • Treating H. pylori infection: H. pylori infection should be treated with antibiotics, especially in patients at increased risk of stomach cancer.
  • Physical activity: Incorporate physical activity into the daily routine to reduce the risk of stomach cancer.
