Some of the factors that increase the risk of ovarian cancer are:

  • Family history of ovarian or breast cancer
  • Advanced age (most cases of ovarian cancer occur after the age of 63 years)
  • Never having children or having children at a later age (>35 years)
  • Medical history of breast cancer
  • Post-menopausal hormonal replacement therapy
  • Being obese or overweight
  • Initiation of menstruation at an early age or attaining menopause at a later age
  • Presence of endometriosis
