Risk Factors
Certain factors increase the risk of small intestine cancer. The risk factors associated with small intestine cancer are:
- Inherited medical conditions, such as familial adenomatous polyposis, Lynch syndrome, and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome
- Underlying medical conditions involving the small intestine, such as celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, and Crohn's disease
- The compromised immune system, especially in patients suffering from HIV or who are on immunosuppressant medications as therapy after an organ transplant.
