Treatment Process

The following treatment options are available for the management of blood cancer:

  • Chemotherapy: The treatment modality makes use of drugs to kill cancer cells. These drugs interfere with the cell division and growth of malignant cells. However, they may also have deteriorating effects on healthy cells.
  • Radiation therapy: Radiation therapy involves using high-energy particles or rays to kill cancer cells.
  • Bone marrow transplant: Bone marrow transplant replaces diseased bone marrow with healthy bone marrow.
  • Targeted therapy: Targeted therapy uses drugs that target the specific and vital process of the cancer cells, thereby stopping or delaying their growth.
  • Immunotherapy: Immunotherapy drugs boost the immune system. They interfere in the processes of cancer cells that protect them from the destructive effects of immune cells.
  • Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy: In this process, the T-cells of the immune system are taken and transformed to fight the cancer cells. The cells are infused back into the system after transformation.
