Follow-up Care

Follow-up care is important for improving the outcomes of tongue cancer treatment. During follow-up care, the survivors undergo a comprehensive examination of the oral cavity, tongue, and throat to detect cancer recurrence at an early stage. In addition, the survivors are also examined for the presence of side effects caused by the cancer treatment. Based on the severity of side effects, the doctor may prescribe new drugs or reduce the dose or frequency of drugs for optimal management of side effects. Therefore, it is important not to miss any scheduled follow-up care visits. Further, the survivors should not ignore any suspicious symptoms and immediately consult with their cancer specialist.
