The oral cavity includes several organs, such as lips, gums, teeth, tongue, soft palate (roof of the mouth), the floor of the moth, and the jaw area behind the teeth. These organs are made of several types of cells. Mutation in any of the cells of oral cavity organs results in uncontrolled growth and division of cells leading to a tumor. The tumor may be benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).
