Some of the factors that increase the risk of gallbladder cancer are:

  • Age: As age increases, the risk of gallbladder cancer increases.
  • Sex: Gallbladder cancer is more common in women.
  • Bile duct inflammation: People with primary sclerosis cholangitis that results in the inflammation of bile ducts have an increased risk of gallbladder cancer.
  • Underlying medical conditions: The presence of polyps, infection and chronic inflammation in the gallbladder increases the risk of gallbladder cancer. Obesity, choledochal cysts in the common bile duct, typhoid, and porcelain gallbladder increase the risk of gallbladder cancer.
  • Gallstones history: One of the most common risk factors for developing gallbladder cancer is a history of gallbladder stones.
