Stages

  • Stage 1 : Cancer has spread to the nearby lymph nodes, distant lymph nodes, or distant organs.
  • Stage 2 : The cancer cells invade deeper into the skin but have not spread to other tissues or nearby lymph nodes.
  • Stage 3 : Cancer spreads to nearby lymph nodes or surrounding skin.
  • Stage 4 : At stage I, the patients have a low-risk primary cancer that has not spread to other tissues. Melanoma at this stage is usually treated with surgery.
  • Stage 5 : The melanoma is limited only to the uppermost epidermal layer.
