Prevention
While uterine cancer cannot be prevented, certain measures and lifestyle changes do help to reduce the risk of developing the cancer type. Some of them are:
- Managing underlying medical conditions: Managing underlying medical conditions reduces uterine cancer risk. Women should control their blood sugar levels and aim to maintain a healthy weight.
- Discuss with the gynecologists the risk of hormone replacement therapy: The women should discuss the advantages and disadvantages of hormone replacement therapy before starting them.
- Birth control pills: Taking birth control pills for at least a year lowers the risk of uterine cancer. It is believed that the risk reduction lasts for several years even if the intake of oral contraceptives is discontinued. However, these drugs also have side effects. It is best to discuss this with the gynecologist before taking the drug.
