Follow-up care after the completion of vaginal cancer treatment is important. It allows the oncologists to monitor the health of the patients, detect the signs of cancer recurrence, and prescribe drugs that manage the side effects of cancer treatment. The survivors may expect a comprehensive health examination, including pelvic examination, Pap smear test, or imaging tests, during the follow-up visit. The vaginal tissues after the cancer treatment are prone to injury. Therefore, the oncologist also monitors the health of the vaginal tissue and checks for any scarring. The use of vaginal dilators may be advised in some women to increase the elasticity of vaginal tissues.
