Prevention

There is no method to prevent vaginal cancer. However, its risk can be reduced through the following measures:

  • Routine monitoring: Routine monitoring, such as undergoing a pelvic examination or Pap smear test, increases the chances of detecting abnormal cells in the pre-cancerous stage.
  • HPV vaccination: HPV vaccination lowers the risk of developing vaginal cancer and other cancers caused due to human papillomavirus.
  • Healthy lifestyle: Women should follow a healthy lifestyle, limit their alcohol consumption and quit smoking.
  • Safe sex: Safer sex measures should be practiced, such as delaying sexual intercourse, limiting the number of sexual partners, using condoms, and avoiding sex with men having more than one partner.
